Mega Electronics was established in 1977 in Cambridge, UK. It became the leading European manufacture of production equipment for the manufacture of prototype and small quantity printed circuit boards.
Its products can be found in schools, colleges and universities throughout the UK and indeed around the world. Pictures can be found of the Mega bubble etch tanks in D And T textbooks.
Mega products can be found in industry, not just for the production of PCB’s but also for other forms of metal etching,
Hobbyists also have used Mega products to produce high quality PCB’s.
Without warning in June 2019 Mega in Cambridge closed its factory. No 0ther manufacturer produces bubble etch tanks suitable for use with Ferric Chloride.
Electron Electronics were Mega distributors for over 30 years and had been serving both hobbyists and the education sector. Unlike other distributors, Noel Humphrey the owner of Electron had spent many years in a secondary school using Mega products to produce PCB’s.
When Mega closed in 2019, Noel searched for alternative manufacturers who produced similar products. Having drawn a blank and knowing there would still be an interest in Mega products he decided to investigate the possibility of manufacturing them.
A chance meeting with the former technical director at Mega, Mark Hall, a plan was put together to restart the manufacturing of the PA range of bubble etch tanks. Today a whole range of Mega products are now available including bench top units, Labstations, productions Lines and the Rota Spray 2. Corner rounders, UV Exposure boxes, chemistry and artwork film.
